The Nature Cut Out Challenge

Today we will be doing another activity with paper people or animals!
We are going to make some Nature Cut Outs. These will help us really look at nature through our cut out "windows".

The easiest way to do this is to print out or draw a butterfly. Make it symmetrical! The easiest way to make it symmetrical is to fold your paper in half and draw half a butterfly. Your parents will show you how.
You can also use the butterfly image that I sent you. Cardstock works really well for this because it is easier to hold up as a window. BUT - cardstock is much harder to cut into.

Next, cut out the wings to make holes (windows to nature). You might need help from parents for this part. It is really hard to cut a window in paper or cardstock.

If you want to, you can cut out a picture of your own face and glue it onto your cut out,
Hold your butterfly up against nature and take a picture. Move it against a different nature and take another picture. You have made super cool butterflies!

You can also draw a person, and cut out the person's t-shirt or dress and make a nature dress or shirt. You can draw a person flying with a super hero cape and cut the cape out! Use your imagination! Be creative!

If you do Instagram, you can check out #naturecutoutchallenge for more ideas!
Born of the Forest (bornoftheforest on instagram) has challenged people to do this to bring awareness of how spending time in nature can improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The wild world is becoming so remote to children that they miss out ..... and an interest in the natural world doesn’t grow as it should. Nobody is going to protect the natural world unless they understand it.
— Sir David Attenborough
