Remembrance Day

We learned about why we observe Remembrance Day and who we are remembering. We learned why peace is so important, and that Canada is a very peaceful place to live.

We learned that poppies are a symbol of remembrance, and we wanted to make our own poppies. We painted them using balloons! We dipped the balloons into red and orange paint and tapped it onto the page. Then we added some green to show the grass that the poppies grow in. Then we used a fingertip to make a dot in the middle of each poppy. Finally, when the paint was dry, we added some stems.

We also added some writing about who we remember on Remembrance day.

Happy Diwali!

We learned about Diwali this week. We are lucky to have some experts in our class who celebrate Diwali at home with their families!

Let's Celebrate Diwali: Anjali Joshi: 9781338343601: Amazon.com: Books

We learned that Diwali is a festival of light, and in India (and around the world) people light diyas to celebrate. We made our own diyas!

First we formed them out of clay by pinching the clay into shapes.

(we had to let them dry overnight)

Then we painted our diyas:

Then we added some sequins to add a bit of sparkle to them:

The Best Part of Me

The Best Part of Me: Children Talk About Their Bodies in Pictures and Words: Ewald, Wendy, Ewald, Wendy: 9780316703062: Books - Amazon.ca

We have been talking about ourselves and what makes us unique. We talked about our names, and then moved on to what we love most about ourselves.

We read the book, The Best Part of Me - Children talk about their bodies in pictures and words by Wendy Ewald.

Then we drew and wrote about what our best part of us was!
